Hi, I’m Sam Leguijt, a game development student at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences with a passion for growth. I enjoy challenging myself, diving headfirst into unknown territory, and learning by doing — whether through university projects, personal prototypes, or exploring ideas and techniques from the game development community.
Being a programmer, I am motivated by learning and improving my skills. I enjoy taking on challenges that push me to think critically and explore new approaches, refining my programming skills along the way. I enjoy finding solutions through code, applying programming patterns, and looking back on earlier projects thinking, “what was I doing?!” As game developer, I find joy in combining my programming skills and knowledge to create accessible and extensible systems that other developers and designers can use and build upon, while delivering impactful systems and mechanics for players to experience.
Throughout my studies, I have worked in multiple teams on semester-long projects, primarily using agile workflows and working in sprints. Within these teams, I have taken on different roles, such as project manager, Scrum Master, and acting as the main point of contact between our team and the product owner, while also contributing directly to development and supporting the team technically. I often chose to step into these responsibilities to challenge myself and grow, even when they felt outside my comfort zone at the time. In these roles, I was responsible for tasks like creating and maintaining our planning, leading stand-ups, and handling communication with stakeholders. While taking on leadership responsibilities does not always come naturally to me, I have seen myself grow more confident and comfortable over time. I enjoy contributing as a developer while learning to take on additional responsibilities where possible.
If you’re interested in my work or think we could collaborate, I’d be happy to hear from you!
